About Maia,

Maia Carter is a third-year graduate student at Clark Atlanta University, pursuing a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. This program, she is diligently preparing to become a skilled and ethical practitioner in the field of psychological services, specializing in psychological assessments and therapeutic interventions for mental health conditions. Taking a client-centered approach, Maia values the unique qualities of each individual and recognizes the profound impact of culture and ethnicity on the counseling process.

She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, awarded in May 2019 from Bowie State University, and is a proud member of the American Counseling Association. With over 7 years of experience in various social service roles, including child care, home care, and facility care, Maia has honed her abilities to guide individuals towards personal growth and positive transformations, ultimately improving their overall outlook on life. Her ongoing work in a Baltimore, Maryland hospital has provided invaluable exposure to behavioral health patients of all age groups, deepening her understanding of the complexities of mental health.

Maia's professional aspirations revolve around specializing in Child and Adolescent Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). She is deeply passionate about empowering children, adolescents, and young adults by applying her proficient skills, which include empathy, active listening, and problem-solving. Her overarching goal is to make a meaningful impact on her clients' lives, helping them foster positive relationships with both themselves and others.

Upon completing her studies at Clark Atlanta University, Maia envisions furthering her academic journey by pursuing a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at the University of Maryland College Park, where she aims to contribute even more to the field of counseling and mental health.
